Man down!

It’s been a while! School and rehearsals are keeping me busy. I got some bad new today…

Jehn is more than likely not going to be able to run the race with me anymore :[ Her knees aren’t in good condition right now and has fallen almost 2 weeks behind in the strict running schedule because of it! No bueno!! I’m very sad to loose my running partner in crime but I know she will still be here to motivate me and cheer me along the finish line when the day comes! We’ve made a promise to drink some green beer together! Can’t back down from that :]

Although I’ve lost my partner in crime, I have to keep on pushing through. This week I went from running for 1.5 min/walking 2 min…to running 3 minutes/walking 3 minutes for 25 min. It was tough. But I made it! It’s getting harder and harder to keep on track with all these things going on in my life but I’m going to stay focused because I know the victory at the end of the race will be a way better feeling than eating an entire pizza to myself. Even though that’s my plan after the race haha.

I want this at the finish line.

Yay me!

Today has been a fabulous day for me! I woke up and decided to weigh myself… I’ve lost 6 pounds so far! Not too shabby for how I had been struggling for a couple weeks before that :] I’m happy to see that all my VERY hard work is paying off!

One bad thing is my knees have started hurting a lot. But no fear… I went on the very difficult elliptical at my house and busted ass for 20 minutes (my record before that was..7 minutes). tomorrow I am going to take off from all work outs so I can have a good long run on Friday! I’m going to take an easy going long hike on Saturday with my friend Chelsea, then relax Sunday. I’m going to try my hardest to stay on eating track all weekend too!

I got a lot of positive comments on my facebook status today when I shared I had lost 6 pounds so far, so I just wanted to say thank you to all my friends who have been supporting me for the past few weeks…You all keep me motivated!!

Here’s to the next 6 pounds :]

Craving chocolate?

Alright…I’m going to go ahead and declare this a “girls only” post right now. You’ve been warned!

As if working out, training for a race in 8 weeks, and eating healthy is hard enough as it is already…Mother Nature loves to give us ladies a wonderful monthly gift and she arrives under the name of Aunt Flo. I hate Mother Nature once a month. It changes the game of staying on track by throwing in just about one week of hell. I don’t know about you ladies but I don’t exactly feel like putting on spandex pants, a tight sports bra and lacing up my running shoes when I’m bloated and cramping! Not to mention the fatigue and random hot flashes…

Despite this monthly curse, I managed to get my butt out of bed and continue my running program, AND I kicked ass doing it! I even followed my run with 80 sit ups and 50 side bends! One GOOD thing about working out this time of month? It improves circulation and calms down those cramps a bit!

Now, although I’m tough enough to run through the pain of cramps… the one thing I have the hardest time with when my least favorite aunt is in town? CRAVINGS. I have the biggest sweet tooth to begin with so this only kicks it into ultra high gear! BUT for the past two days I’ve managed to stay on track with my eating habits! Might I mention, I’ve NEVER been able to keep to a diet while on my period. So I’m very proud of myself :]

A couple things that have helped me:

Working out has kept my circulation going.

If I take advil once I feel some major cramps coming…keeps my mind off my period.

Target brand nutrition bars! 14 grams of protein plus 19 minerals and vitamins 210 cal…great FOR you….and…it’s chocolate! S’mores to be exact. I eat one after I work out because that’s when you’re muscles are asking for protein. You muscles get what they want: protein. You get what you want: chocolate! I would actually like to eat this for any chocolate craving over a regular candy bar any day!

Sorry it's backwards!

Yoplait yogurts. SO good! And good for you too :] My favorite flavor? White chocolate strawberries! 110 cal. Great for when you’re craving something light and refreshing, yet delicious!

I’ve tried a lot of healthy foods and I’ve found that a lot of power bars and “sweet substitutes” just taste like cardboard and do nothing positive for my taste buds… I’ve finally found two that are a perfect match!

So ladies… What do you do when your annoying Aunt Flo is in town? What do you do to kick those cravings to the curb without throwing your diet down the drain?

Motivation.

I’m officially registered for the St. Patrick’s Day 4 mile race!!! There’s no going back now! This is my newest motivation for staying on track. I payed my 25 dollars and I’m going to get a shirt and I know all this hard work is totally going to be worth it, especially if I get to celebrate with friends and family and some green beer!

8 weeks and 4 miles away!

Thanks to my favorite Jehn Glynn… I’m on my first week of the Couch to 5k program and Jehn is with me! I love that she’s doing it too because we can motivate each other the entire way through, and hopefully run all four miles and cross the finish line together! I love how positive we are both making this experience, and I know we will never forget this :]

I’ve been having a VERY hard time staying on track with my eating habits. I’m very disappointed in myself for getting off track so many days already. I just always find a way to cave in to my cravings. I’m trying to change my mindset about food now: Food is fuel. If you put clean food into your system, you will perform better. The better the food, the better the performance! So, NO dirty fuel! I want to accomplish this race more than anything right now so I’m not going to slow myself down just to have 5 minutes of heaven with that burrito and chocolate.

I want to be MY best. Leave me be, cravings!

Who’s with me?!

I know it’s only been two weeks but I have changed my fitness goals…for the better!
My friend, Julianne, completed a half marathon this morning! I’m very proud of her for being so brave to train and complete. She told me it was one of the most rewarding experiences of her life and if I ever got the chance to do it! I always wanted to do something like this for the past couple of years but I feel like I didn’t because I wanted to do it for the wrong reason: to lose weight and look hot.

I want to do it now because I want to accomplish something that takes a lot of hard work, courage, and passion. I think my biggest goal will go to complete the 3 day breast cancer walk but I know that won’t happen for a couple years. So I’m going to start small since I’ve never been a runner! My first race is going to be the St. Patrick’s Day run in Old Town Scottsdale. The sixteenth of March I believe. it’s 4 miles and it’s a walk/run. Begins at 5pm and is 25$ to register. And at the end you bet I’m going to celebrate with some green beer!

I’m going to slowly work my way up from that and go on to a 10k (6.2 miles) race hopefully a month or two after that. I would like to complete a half marathon (13.5 mi?) by fall! Since I’m barely just getting into shape now, I’m not going to set my goals to soon in the future since I don’t even know if I could handle running ONE mile without stopping!

One thing I would like is someone to do this with me! Two months is going to creep up soon but I know I would love to share this experience with a friend, the more the merrier!

If anyone is interested in doing this with me, let me know! I would love the company :]

Finally!

I was very disappointed on sunday when I found out I hadn’t lost an ounce all week. But, four days later and I decided to step on the horrifying scale again today, thursday. I’ve lost 2.5 pounds! I know it’s not a lot…but it’s a small step in the right direction :] I cut alcohol out of my diet, which I think did the trick. I must admit I had ONE Mich Ultra at tuesday night karaoke…but I had 4 glasses of water prior so I think that was ok :]

I’m going to hike Camelback mountain again today with Andrea and Amy! I’m glad I know what to expect now but my muscles are still really sore and weak so I may not be able to handle as much today. I’m going to do camelback again saturday and hike in sunflower maybe sunday or monday too! I’m glad to make this a regular thing in my life…plus hiking is so much more fun with friends than jogging alone! It’s more like an activity than a work out :]

A great thing is I invested in a hydration back pack! It holds 2 liters of water, you carry it on your back and you don’t have to carry water bottles or stop to take them out of your pack every few minutes! I can just sip out the long straw and keep on truckin’ :]

Camelback mountain

I just got back from my first hike at Camelback Mountain! I had no idea how tough it was going to be. It took up about 15 minutes just to walk to the mountain from where we parked and that’s like more than a quarter of my USUAL work out. We were gone for a total of just over 2 hours. I’m used to just 45 minutes of cardio then some upper body work outs at home. I think I may have pushed myself a little too far. My knee gave out a bit towards the end because it became so week. So I don’t think I’ll push myself so much the next time.

I’m glad I went with andrea and amy because they were positive the entire time and kept me going! They will make great hiking buddies. It’s a lot of hard work to get up there but it was totally worth it. I’m sure I will be SUPER sore tomorrow though! I would love to make hiking a regular thing but it might get difficult when school starts…

Thank you ladies for a great time!
